- This event will bring REDI Awardees together with their Mentors, partners, guest speakers, and CIHR to engage in meaningful discussions, networking, and professional development.
- The objectives of the REDI Forum are to:
- Promote the research independence of REDI Awardees by providing them with support and resources
- Explore factors necessary for launching successful research faculty careers
- Discuss common research career challenges
- Establish a lasting professional network among peers (community of practice)
- Share strategies for fostering productive and culturally sensitive mentor/mentee relationships
- CIHR is committed to supporting researchers across the career path, and this award focuses on advancing mentorship. Participation of REDI Mentors at the Forum will provide an opportunity to collaboratively explore ways to foster culturally sensitive and productive mentor/mentee relationships.
- REDI funded excellent research projects from all four pillars, offering a unique opportunity for Mentors and Awardees alike to expand their professional networks, build new connections across career stages, and engage in interdisciplinary discussions through this Forum.
- Applications for travel support need to be submitted on or before 5 pm EST on December 12, 2024 by email to the REDI Secretariat REDISecretariat-SecretariatEDIR@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.
Funds Available
- A total amount of $129,000 is available to fund up to forty-three (43) awards to Mentors of REDI Awardees. The maximum amount available for a single award is $3,000.
- Please note that this award has a funding start of April 1, 2025. Successful applicants will pay for their travel costs up front as per the budget submitted (up to the award maximum).
Specific Requirements
- CIHR will support a maximum of 1 Mentor per REDI Awardee to attend the Forum.
- Applicants must clearly identify the first and last name of the REDI awardee they are mentoring, and their role in the REDI program (i.e., Phase 1 Primary Mentor, Phase 1 Additional Mentor, Phase 2 Faculty Mentor, Phase 2 Additional Mentor).
- The Nominated Principal Applicant must be a Mentor of a REDI Awardee.
- If the Primary Mentor is unable to attend the Forum, an alternate mentor may apply in their place. Note that this individual must have been listed as an 'additional mentor' in the REDI Awardee's REDI application.
- If an awardee has transitioned to Phase 2 of REDI then a faculty mentor from their current Phase 2 host institution may attend the Forum; if they are unable to attend, an alternate Mentor from a different host institution (including the Phase 1 host institution) may apply in their place.
- To facilitate networking and full engagement in Forum activities, REDI Mentors (and Awardees) are encouraged to stay overnight at the Forum venue in King City, Ontario, on April 1, 2025.
- Applicants must provide a budget to justify the amount requested, including all expected costs associated with travel and the 1.5-day Forum: ground and/or air transportation, food, accommodations, etc. Please also note that the Forum venue requires guests to purchase hospitality packages: applicants should therefore include $700 ($500 for day 1, $200 for day 2) plus 13% HST in their budgets for food and accommodations for the 1.5-day event.
